Why am I not losing weight? (Plateau 1month+)

Hi everyone,

I am 5'4 104lbs. I have been restricting 1200-1300 for the past 2 months exception of maybe two binges. I strength train 6-7 times a week. I do cardio 2-3 times. I walk as much as possible however with school I probably only average at 5-6km. I count macros, drink water etc. I don't fucking know what to do. I'm starting to lose motivation. I'm tired so tired.

Anyone please help or have advice??

My brain would say either do less muscle building exercise, or restrict more. There's also a chance that you're undercounting the calories you eat too.

just be patient. maintaining stamina and heart muscle is so important. exercise constantly tears muscle, rebuilds, retains water, some inflammation which also causes water retention, so you're probably not literally 104 pounds. which is so small for 5'4! just be patient. you're doing really well.

Thank you that makes me feel a bit better. I appreciate it. If I didn't have such an exercise addiction I would take a break☹

I was going through the same thing, and made a similar thread. Someone told me to try taking a day or two off from all exercise and have a higher cal day than normal (not a binge, just eating more cals than usual) and I was like there's no way that works... I did it and my weight went down 1.2 lbs the next morning. So maybe take a day or two off from exercise and let your body recover from working so hard and see if it helps?

This definitely isn't a guarantee, just a suggestion that happened to work for me.

I'm scared to do that since my binges didn't do anything for me. But maybe I need more of a break? I don't know I'm so scared I'll gain if I do more than one day. I know it's silly

I can be in a constant deficit for months and maintain my weight.

Then all of a sudden I'll drop a lot for 2-3 weeks. And then the cycle starts all over again.

Maybe your body is like mine?

The key is Consistently. Be consistent and don't let these plateaus discourage you and you WILL get to your goal.

A maintenance day or above maintenance for a day does help. Tho for me personally I need to have way more than maintenance for a day to bump me out of a plateau.

I think it's a delicate balance between having a high cal day versus a binge- I think a binge probably didn't help because it was many calories at once maybe, rather than having those cals spread throughout an entire day. I'm not entirely sure, I'm not a doctor lol but perhaps trying to not binge but letting yourself eat a little more than usual spanning your waking hours (so the cals are spread out) would work. That and taking 24-48 hours off from exercising (like skip exercise on the day that you would do strength training and cardio and have your high-cal day then and see if that helps)?

I completely understand being scared of taking a day off in fear that it will cause weight gain, but it may be worth it to see if it helps you break the plateau that's been going on for so long. Working your body every single day can also be dangerous, so please try and stay safe! You won't gain real weight from taking a day off btw, the most that will happen is 'gaining' a bit of food weight or water weight that will go down quickly.

I'm also dealing with a huge plateau right now and I decided to "eat normally" for one day to see if that helps, I've been med restricting 400-750cals for two weeks and have lost until my plateau which I've been dealing with for almost 5 days now :|

By "High Cal Day" do you mean BMR TDEE kinda day or?

Yeah I guess eat at or a little above your TDEE-I didn't count cals when I did it so idk what the cal total was exactly, but I would guess that I ate a little above my TDEE. Once again, this isn't an exact science, just a suggestion in the hopes that it'll help. The term 'high cal day' is just what other people used in the thread that I created so I'm just using the same term they did

Today I ate at my BMR. I'm also experiencing a plateau but I'm menstruating right now so I feel like it might go away after my period passes. :/ I've never had this, usually I'm able to lose on my period.

Yeah that can definitely affect it, hopefully your plateau will go away soon!
