What's the fastest way to debloat, I feel like complete shit today. Been only drinking water.

lots of water. sometimes eating a bunch of veggies to "push it out" helps, but for some people it just makes them more bloated. act based on prior experiences. for me adding oil/cream to my food is pretty terrifying but helps me be more regular and therefore debloat.

This may sound silly, but having a shot of clear liquor (vodka, whiskey) right before bed actually helps you get rid of some water weight. (This is why sometimes when u drink a lot, you wake up lighter the next morning inexplicably).

Hmmmidk

Alcohol always bloats me like crazy. What's the science behind it?
it's a diuretic so it pulls water out of you. that's part of why you get a headache, because you're dehydrated. beer/wine makes some people bloat because of the hops or sugar.

i can't drink alcohol though :(

This… actually makes me want a drink now

Ive been trying and Indian remedy for liver kidney clenase and I feel like my body os holding more water? Im more dry in generAl, so ive been drinking more and not peeing more, sodium intake I believe is stable

Do newly started kidney and liver cleanse make you boat and retain water weight??? Ive been weighing it out but sad bc I've been really good on my intakes and burns and wish I could see those damn numbers

Not sure of alcohol will screw up the clinics

Sorry if too off topic I figured this was better than started such a similar thread

Op in addition to the physiological, alcohol is indeed a diuretic and such… personally I have found this, after the wedding I was scared to weigh w extra cals and a serious amount of wine and I was a pound under and no bm

Happens when I have a couple shots of vodka in SF drink mix

Also I do a few different teas, often I much some combo of the following teas

Yogi stomach ease and/or be well teas Get Relief and/or traditional medicinals Gas Relief

I have spinal DX indeed constipation so my bloat is trapped gas so I do two of those teas, and one of either

Yogi detox tea or be well teas Get Clean (detox) usually in 24 oz mug each night

I also take magnesium citrate powder, fiberEx (20 cals 15 gram fiber per ounce, and a raw probiotic dose broken up over the day

These help stimulate the intestines not necessarily to poop but to keep things moving which helps my personal bloat situation which start getting really bad every evening until I go to bed I wake up with a lot of gas to pass and boat goes down

Ive found the key isn't just attacking at night but rather a steady every day maintenance approach soooo haha I will try to recap it, in case you want to grab things you like and try them out… the gas and boat discomfort has drastically reduced by my doing my twice day time interventions I can actually pass gas again in the evening now not have to groan through night and wait for morning

So each morning I do

2 serv benefiber,

half serving fiberEx and

1 of 3 raw probiotics (3 is a dose),

1/2 serv fermented cod liver oil(1ml)

Raw enzymes and

my raw vitamins, raw zinc+vit C

An hr later tony amount almondilk and julians baker pro granola (in phobic of morning eating) this is to stem my intestines I can usually poop after.. Its 97 cals, 12 gr fiber 2 net carbs/sugar it feels safe for me it doesnt make me hungry like other morning foods do

Afternoon I do stool softeners (no stim lax ) if I know bad I do a half of a senna ie 4.3 mg senna to give a slight stim

2 of 3 raw probiotics with Gut Shot beet juice and ginger 1-1.5 ounce serving low cal natural probiotics and ginger for the tummy

Late dinner time same thing with softeners and if bad a half senna

Night time

Fiberex 15 ml(1/2 serving 10 cals 7.5 g fiber)

Magnesium citrate powder

Other half serving, 1ml fermented cod liver oil

Herb pharm liver detox liquid

Herb pharm fungus fighter

***

3 of 3 for raw probiotics + raw enzymes with it

*** I take these earlier than the rest so nothing gets too acidic or interferes with probiotics making it to my intestines

The others roght before bed because the Mg powder makes my boat rumble as it starts to work and if rather sleep through it and I wake up to a pooh and less bloat

I also add softeners at night bc of my spinal dx I have a neurogenic bladder and bowel, they sleep basically and my minimal pain meds still make my BM HARD and prone to blockage so I personally take 4-10 softeners at night and a half to 3 senna depending on if a blockage seems to be brewing (my doc approves lol) but I kept this separate as I would just randomly suggest ot to everyone

Recently I started trying triphala (true veda brand seems better than organic India brand) it seems to be slowly but surely cleaning more stuff.. Corn from a week ago finally out :)

Also just started organic India brand Bowel Care to see if helps so I feel unable to really condemn or recommend those two as I don't have enough experience yet

I hope some of that helps… after some scary blockage runs and after thinking I had it nailed and finding a night routine nope 2-3 weeks later I would find myself at docs blocked it just happened slower bc of night routine… .adding these softeners in day and natural stimulations to intestines (that didn't panic my restriction and no early eating rules) I finally have stay blockage free… its a lot but its a comforting routine in a way bc I know I will pooh in the morning the boat will go down and in even losing the boat before morning sometimes :)

If your boat is strictly water retention in not sure how much the above will help

I would still at the very least try a stomach ease tea by yogi (or be well get relief tea ) paired with a detox tea (I like yogi, or get clean by be well teas) in a 16 oz mug. Its non invasive and comforting flavor and warm and helps with multiple sources of boat

Ive heard salt baths , epsom salt??? Hmmm I always feel leary suggesting this not knowing your electrolyte situation. We are all so unique it seems hard to know whats safe but maybe others more knowledgeable can comment on salt baths, salt water compress applied topically to your tummy?

I hope some of that helps. I understand the frustrations

Sorry if types my hands are especially spastic and contractrd tonight making phone typing a challenge :) so ty for being patient

Good luck

Just a note on the alcohol recommendation - it will NOT help further de-bloat to drink more then 1 or 1.5 shots. That'll just lead to extra symptoms, and potentially make you vulnerable to binge, and unnecessary dehydration. As others have mentioned, it's a diuretic which is why it helps shed water weight. (You will not lose actual weight).

Also, it's good to try and eat dinner earlier on. Don't snack at night (or between meals even). Peristalsis is a series of muscle contractions that helps move food through your intestines and essentially get rid of bloat. However ANY time you eat it interrupts this natural process of essentially sweeping food down your digestive tract. It takes something like 1.5 hours for one cycle of peristalsis to occur, so the more time you can allow the process to happen the less bloated you will feel. (Body-builders take advantage of this to get flatter stomachs coming up to competitions and eat less, bigger meals)

This is why sometimes if you eat a huge dinner/ lunch the day before (even a bit over your regular caloric limit) but you stop eating at like 6pm rather then 10pm you will likely still wake up with a flatter stomach.

  • water. but you knew that already hahah
  • tomatoes
  • cucumbers
  • using lite (potassium) salt instead of regular sodium chloride salt
  • cranberry tea (I like traditional medicinal's "weightless" tea for debloat
  • if it's due to dehydration, then electrolyte drinks like vitamin water or powerade zero may help
  • yogurt (or probiotics)
  • less carbs, more "healthy" fats (i don't believe in healthy fats tbh but I do notice i'm slightly less bloated if I end the night with roasted seaweed snacks or a cup of unsweetened nutmilk, both of which get over 90% of their calories from fat macros) also bc each gram of carbohydrate holds onto a certain amount of water, which could make you puffier and slightly heavier due to water weight. keep in mind this is only on a molecular level tho
  • ginger
  • bananas
  • epsom salt bath
  • hot shower (you'll lose sweat/water weight if you're holding onto it)
  • light exercise (walk, easy biking, yoga, etc.)
  • dark chocolate (if it's a fear for you like it is for me, dark cocoa or cacao powder is good too)
  • peppermint tea
  • asparagus
  • lots of sleep (maybe go to bed earlier/sleep in later if possible, to extend your hours asleep)

I usually just stay up all night. I feel that makes me burn more calories and I feel better.

To the people advocating liquor because it is a diuretic, wouldn't a shot of espresso work the same way with no cals? Curious to know as I always thought alcohol increased bloat

Espresso should theoretically help, because it does work as a diuretic. Plus the caffeine speeds up your heart rate=more calories burned, so I'd definitely pick that over a 70 calorie shot lol. Alcohol is also a diuretic. If you bloat or not depends, I've had it go both ways. I find that if I stay dehydrated, i.e. I don't drink enough water, I'm not bloated the next morning. If I do drink adequate water, I'm usually bloated the next day. Maybe because my body's holding on to the water since it was in a somewhat dehydrated state.

Thank you for that insight and sharing your theory. I wouldn't mind trying a shot of alcohol once in a while but I feel that for me it's always going to result in bloat, and if I really needed rid of that I'd rather have something that was a safer bet. And fewer cals.
