is it possible to grow with anorexia?

probably an idiotic question, but is it possible to shove in all of the required nutrients to grow while restricting? just to lay it out there, on average, i eat around 1000 calories every day and 1400 calories once a week, which isn't too bad. i read about how running, jump roping, and yoga help with growth so i'm planning to incorporate that into my schedule.

so for anyone out there who is tall, how did you do it? was it genetics, diet, exercise, etc.? i'm really desperate for a few more inches (5'5" to 5'8") and am still in the phase of growing, but i'm stuck in between this endeavor and my fear of food.

You must be so young if you're still growing in height :(

Please eat a balanced and moderate diet, and give your body what it needs in order for you to grow. I'm not sure how old you are, and I'm pretty young myself, but if you're still growing in height that means your bones and muscles need vitamins and calories, so if you do restrict keep it fairly high.

Calorie restriction can negatively impact how tall you grow and how you will grow, so its best that you take nutritional supplements if you suffer from EDs and anything like anorexia and anorexia nervosa to try and maximize your height during your height growing years (even after your height has maxed out your bones and joints shall likely continue to increase in size).

I will assume you're at a young age if you're asking this question. TBH I'd think you need to eat more if you don't want to retard your growth. Most especially your bone growth.

I didn't start restricting until I was about 20. But either way osteoporosis got me in the end and now I'm shrinking. Frickin shit. No matter what we do we get screwed.

You could get most of the nutrients you need if you add in some super power vitamins. Plus you have to plan every meal with the idea of getting as many nutrients as possible over a weeks time.

If you cut out meat you probably won't get what you need. I hate to say that b/c I don't believe in eating animals.But meat contains close to complete nutrition.It's because animals meat contains almost all the nutrients said animal was eating.

If you're restricting, you're pretty much depriving your body of the essential nutrients or 'building blocks' to grow and create new cells.

So if you're still interested in gaining a few inches, I'd say it's unlikely you will because your body uses whatever energy you do have for more important functions in the body for you to stay alive.

I don't think so.
I think it's the same as adults gaining weight, you have to eat a surplus of calories.
If you've ever payed attention to toddlers and small children when they grow, first they get really hungry and eat a bunch, then they gain some weight and get kind of fat, and then they sleep more for a while so their body can move all that. The most important part of growing is the eating and gaining weight. The same thing happens to older kids too, but 1 pound doesn't make that much of a difference on them, so they don't look fat or anything.
If you want to grow, you have to eat. That is why a lot of people in poorer countries are shorter, because they don't get enough to eat as children, and then they don't grow.
I wasn't restricting most of the time when I did the last of my growing (between 11 and 13 from 5'2 to 5'9)
I cone from a family with tall people too so that helped.

Im 22, and ive had very disordered patterns of eating since I was about 14. I caught my reflection in a window the other day and realised that I have a very child like body. Im quite short as well, which is weird because the rest of my family and extended family are all average height or taller, my mum is even taller than me. Anyway, Ive always known that Im short but only the other day did I REALLY realise how child-like my body is, even though people have always told me that Im small, I never really thought much of it. Realised that its probably all due to my calorie restriction during my growing years, and that I do genuinely have some stunted growth. Anorexia also impairs your brain function especially when growing, but I have noticed that I have mentally slowed down, and often come across as ditzy and probably dumb, even though I was a great student at school and topped most of my classes.

Anyway, just wanted to share with you that yeah, eating disorders and calorie restriction really do harm your growth, and I definitely would not recommend restriction during those vital years. Save it for when you're atleast 18, wish I'd listened to my parents about this! Stay safe <3

I'm not a doctor but I'm gonna say yes because I'm almost 4 inches shorter than my younger sister, who didn't have an ed

thanks for the help guys. would it be a different case to eat maybe 1500 calories and exercise it all off? i'm not sure if calories matter as much as nutrients when it comes to growing (i'll have to look into that). also, are there any specific vitamins/supplements that aid in growth?

ahhh, i really want to grow but want to lose weight at the same time. i'll probably just restrict until i get to a certain weight and try to eat more then.

I was underweight growing up because i was a picky eater and my parents turned every meal into a power struggle. I believe that is why i am short, not because i started puberty younger than most of my classmates. So i would advice you to at least eat a healthy, well rounded diet. Your body needs a certain amount just to function, i know what mine is but you sound younger and idk what it is for someone who has not finished growing yet. I would eat a higher amount and exercise. Your healthy weight range is between 114 and 144 according to the chart i use so i would just aim to be somewhere in there. Trust me, you don't want to stunt your growth. I wish i had eaten better growing up, then i would be taller, i get told i look like i'm 12 by strangers all the time.

No. I'm 22, 4'11 and have osteopenia because this shit ripped the calcium right out of my bones.​
Take your vitamin D, calcium supplements (but not too much!), and multivitamins (but not at the same time as the calcium if it's got iron in it) every day and eat a lot of protein and necessary dietary fat.​

yes, i'm aiming to be 110-115 but am not one who was naturally skinny a few years back. ahh, i'm so frustrated with myself--why can't i just eat like a normal person. i have been over-eating and under-eating for so long that maybe it's too late to grow and my body is already screwed up.

Youll stop growing once you've lost about 15% of your weight
Sometimes lower than that even
is this backed up with research? conveniently, 85% of my current weight is near my goal weight so i hope what you're saying is accurate.

i don't exercise all of the 1000/1400 calories because of priorities i have to stay sharp for, so the calorie deficit isn't as bad as it seems.
