It could BUT you could also end up keeping it and giving birth to a very unhealthy baby. I would say that it's not the method to rely on. And please know that I empathize deeply with your situation. I was pregnant 3 years ago and considered this.

You should also know that if you go to planned parenthood, they will likely not even take your insurance & more insurers don't cover abortion. If you're worried about that, just tell them you don't have any. You will have to pay they same about both ways. If I recall correctly, it should be around $800. I want to make it very clear that it is WORTH the money if you don't want the baby. It was very difficult for me emotionally but it was the right decision and I would do it again. Please ensure that you have a support system in place if possible, even if it's not your family.
