I feel like I'm too fat to be anorexic. I know that there isn't a "weight limit" to be anorexic, but I feel like there's no one else out there that's like me. (I'm currently right around 170 lbs *disgusting, ik* )

No one is too fat to be anorexic, anorexia is a mind state, it doesn't matter what your starting point is. Just stay dedicated and always thinking of how much you want the body that you want x

there's not actually such thing as "too fat" to be anorexic, but to be diagnosed with anorexia, you have to have a weight of 15% or below what is expected. However, there is an ED in the OSFED category which is called "atypical anorexia;" this is when you meet all the requirements for anorexia except for the weight.

Anorexia Nervosa is a medical condition with its own set of absurdities. Most people on these forums are dieting. There's no need for confusion. This is not a website that excludes anyone on Any basis. Its all inclusive here, however there are a select few who are very ill and are looking for others to seek comfort as having a legitimate ED is....awful, horrid....

Don't worry, it takes all types tp make up a forum. My official diagnosis was anorexia but I've recovered and only recently relapsed so my weight still doesn't reflect the mental illness. Atypical anorexia is pretty much still anorexia minus the weight criteria and you are still entitled to help and support from any individual of any weight on this website. We're all in it together x

In the beginning, I remember I went through some pretty terrible thoughts ... The only thing that made sense at the time was how I felt in my mind and about myself. I felt that my body did not reflect the turmoil I felt. I just wanted to starve until my pain was visible, until the pain could make me beautiful and from that could arise happiness. See you never are too fat to be anorexic because, I'll tell you what defines this, it's in your mind, it's what you've been through, and it is what you are willing to do to yourself, not eating is not the disease it's just a symptom because, the real dilemma is a mental barrier that separates those who eat small portions then feel guilty and then compulsively exercise and then the others, the ones who can eat shamelessly without guilt ... And what a wonderful world I believe them to live in, why on earth would anyone go looking for Ana? ... It's like if she wants you she'll find you it's just seems wrong to go looking for her.

I think some people just have to accept they don't have anorexia. The all consuming desire to lose weight and occasional starving does not make you anorexic. It certainly means you have an intense eating disorder but it's not specifically anorexia itself. There's no shame in not being anorexic, it doesn't mean your real eating disorder is not valid. I don't understand everyone's intense desire to be labeled as it.

I weigh a little more than you, do you’re not alone. I recently have relapsed because my BMI is nearing overweight and it’s driving me insane. But there is no certain appearance with anorexia, it’s also normal in the illness to feel as though you’re the biggest in this disorder but trust me you aren’t :) you’re not alone x

Agreed... It is not about fitting into a category. It is about making sense of what you have and learning to live with it. Anorexia is one of many EDs and no ED is more grand than another.

honestly.. i don't think it really matters. mental disorder labels exist largely for treatment of specific disorders, for statistics and so your psych or doctor knows what to do with you after diagnosis but i don't know why it would matter in an individual's personal life if they can slap the "anorexia" label on themselves or not.

Yo, so, I get what all these other people are saying about diagnosis and shit, but I weigh 290 rn and I've legit been diagnosed with anorexia (they never mentioned atypical or anything, just 'past anorexia' bc I convinced them I was 'recovered' bc I didn't want them to stop me). I've been at this shit for 4 years, only reason I haven't lost more is bc of birth control and side effects of psych meds (both of which I'm no longer on). Don't let your weight make you feel invalid. It's a mental disorder with physical symptoms, not the other way around, and anyone who tries to tell you different is an idiot who never went to med school, so their opinion isn't valid, anyway.

Anorexia Nervosa is a mental illness, as is EDNOS/OSFED which Atypical Anorexia falls under. Both are EDs, neither is 'better' or 'worse' than the other - they are both shite!!!

Anorexia Nervosa clinicians diagnose based on a certain set of criteria and requires a "significantly low weight", EDNOS/OSFED however has no weight criteria for diagnosis.

In my opinion anorexia is in the mind and not a weight. It's the thoughts and behaviours that are more telling and what defines anorexia.

Even if your weight is too high to be medically classified as anorexic, the disorder can start at any weight. Not to mention there are plenty who relapse at higher weights.

Technically it would be EDNOS/OSFED at a higher weight, but that shouldn't make you feel as though your disorder isn't any less real or detrimental. The label only indicates what kind of treatment you would be prescribed, but the mindset is rather much the same more or less in both EDNOS and AN. :( I'm sorry you're going through this.
