Peanut butter too good to be true? (28 cals for 2 tablespoons)

I just discovered this and I was very skeptical, but after reading reviews and several hours of digging into the studies, it looks legit. Am I missing something here? I actually laughed at how ridiculous it seemed at first, but the science is compelling.

I read the science behind it and it makes sense from what I've learned in Chemistry. Basically they added a compound in equal proportions with the amount of fat and carbohydrates contained in the unaltered nut butter. This chemical acts on the macro nutrients in a way that essentially alters their structure, allowing them to pass through the digestive system unabsorbed.

There are links to a lot of studies concerning the specific ingredient that have been conducted on both humans and animals.

In one of the studies they gave people either a placebo (regular peanut butter) or this product in excess of required caloric intake. Those that received the placebo gained weight while those that had the Professor Nutz butter did not.
In another study they found that those that ate the Professor Nutz peanut butter as a substitute for the calories they normally would have consumed lost weight.

Scientists of MPA, and everyone else (lol), what are your thoughts? I'm pretty sure I'm going to at least try it and see for myself, but I wanted to share it with all of you, too. :)

Idk if I could trust "digestibility corrected" it still shows the nutritional facts as normal pb and states its different for everyone based on how they digest fiber and hasn't been evaluated by the FDA, seems way too good to be tried it ITS 18$ WTF

i would be wary of trusting those studies if they were funded by the company, although i was unable to find the links so i didn't take a look and am not sure what they look like

also, any studies that say you absorb less calories from nuts are looking at the whole, unprocessed nut. all pb is processed so you definitely will absorb more calories. the "digestibility-corrected" thing is bs imo. even if you burn more calories from digesting the protein in the nuts it would be an extremely insignificant amount. like 10? lol. looks straight up misleading to me. this pb is 200 kcal per serving, not the "28 kcal digestibility corrected" thing

i would be highly skeptical that you would only absorb 15% of the calories from this pb. it looks like it still has the fat and everything unlike pb2 powder.

The thing is that supposedly there is an amount of Cyclodextrins added to the finished, blended product that is in a direct ratio to the amount of fat and carbohydrates the peanutbutter contains. The study looked specifically at the way this natural fiber binds to the macro nutrient to prevent it from being able to be absorbed. The fat passes through the intestines into the colon without being digested, and therefore the calories are not absorbed. It's not that you burn more calories digesting it, it's that the calories you take into your body from this product can't be stored as usable energy.

It kind of works like those fat blocker things that stop you from absorbing the fat or carbs in the food that you eat.

Like I said, I was super skeptical so I spent a long time digging into the science behind it.

If it's TRUE that would be awesome but tbh I still wouldn't eat it bc pb is a "good/tasty" food and i try to avoid nice things bc they're potential as a floodgate
I'm also a bit wary to try it because everyone seems to actually think it tastes okay. I don't know if I could handle eating something that tastes like it would make me gain weight, if that makes sense

Sorry to spam it, I swear this is the last link. It looks like it's mostly been studied in Asian countries. This one was a test on rats that were fed cytodestrins that showed a decrease in lipid absorption: https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/jnsv1973/31/2/31_2_209/_article/-char/ja/ " These results suggest that a-CD may be classified as dietary fiber which can modulate lipid metabolism in rats. Furthermore, the CD mixture may be available as a calorie substitute for weight control, which may owe mostly to α-CD."

All the fiber that is packed into it seems sketchy since each indivdual digest different degrees of certain fibers, similar to the case with protein products that pack their products with fiber, its a marketing scam I suppose.
Idk, there's an awful lot of science backing these specific fibers. You're definitely entitled to your opinion though! :)

Either way, I think I'm going to give it a chance personally. I've been at a plateau for over five months now, so I'm pretty desperate anyway lol

Please let us know your thoughts if you try it!! PB2 has been good to me but I'm fascinated by the way this stuff apparently works.

Yo if you guys need a quick peanut butter fix, this is my shit right here. It's exactly like frozen peanut butter. It feels like eating half a jar of it. It's so, so good.

I think this might be an Albertson's only store brand which is only US based. You'd better start flying out here lmao

Hmm I would be wary. I know companies are given leeway when they put calorie labels so they can alter the range a bit as long as they stay within guidelines Sometimes when a brand gets popular they will fix it either from consumer complaints or change of formula like how Lenny and Larry cookies and halo top upped their calories, but it’s probably close though and considerably less than normal peanut butter which is probably why the experiment still resulted in a weight loss within the controlled groups with the placebo. I would still eat it though better than normal Pb. I always eat pb2 cuz it’s less lol

I wanna know how it tastes before I blow that kind of money on it. Like yeah, Walden Farms foods at no-calorie, but I still don't buy them because they taste like ass.
Oh my GOD, the Walden farms zero calorie peanut spread actually made me cry. From all the reviews people say this is like normal peanut butter. Whenever I get the money and can actually order it I'll update everyone with my experience. :)
