i remember when she was everywhere in the community, quotes and pics and putting her on the highest piedestal ever

i watched skins not knowing about her and before knowing thats where it was from, and i can definitely say it had a big effect on me, even if i wasnt really aware of it then. i wasnt even a huge fan of her as a character in that way, but the behaviors shown, like for sure

same, I never thought she was a very good character. They could have/ should have done a lot more with her
this 100%

I feel like they did poorly with the portrayal of an eating disorder too. when i first heard the "i didn't eat for three days so i could be lovely" i couldn't take that portion of skins seriously anymore lol
They had the opportunity to really make something out of her, and they blew it. They did so much better with portraying psychosis in effy than they could with anorexia in cassie, and psychosis is pretty hard to get a character to portray in comparison.

i agree with this a hella lot too. i think they were kind of new to the whole thing and not sure what to do exactly with their characters in the first season, bc it did get a lot better. also cassies whole "EAT" psychosis shit, like what was that about? i remember being so confused, was he just denying for the sake of it, or was it in her head? never thought they explained that enough

I actually auditioned for skins at the time lmao (it was for gen 3 though)

I found Effie more triggering than Cassie but the whole vibe of the show, reckless teens was so reflective of mine and my friends' lives that it just did it for me
yeah same, and i think they did mental illness better with her than with cassie. i love the show, don't get me wrong, it is one of my favorite shows ever, but i think cassie could have been done so so much better

I remember when the show first aired, and it was such a huge deal because of how raw the storytelling was compared to any drama show before it. The writers did the best they could knowing they only had two full episodes to really tell her story before all the characters are replaced. Also consider the minuscule budget they probably had for that first series since it was an unproven show and many of the writers were new to the industry at the time (posh Kenneth was even a writer!). Totally agree that Effie was the better character, and she’s special because she had four full episodes and you saw such a deep level of development from her over those four seasons. It’s crazy too look back at that show and realize how many careers it helped launch. The cinematography was also way ahead of its time. I wouldn’t say Cassie triggered me, but her character definitely made me more aware of certain behaviors and disordered thinking patterns.

I want the ankle watch, I have a perfect watch but it doesn't fit around my fat ankle aargh

I really like her character, she's weird and dreamy and fairy-like and lives in a parallel-universe

Didn't necessarily trigger me. Is it sad to say I felt inspired by her, before I was officially diagnosed with an ED, but was already displaying symptoms, including drastic weight loss. I think the sense of her seeming so dainty and delicate and angelic, was memorizing for me.. like even the way she speaks seems dainty...

Meh , effy triggers me more because I cling to my teenage life and looks ( I'm 24 now ) and I first started watching it as a teen. Plus kaya almost looked thinner than Hannah ( effy and Cassie ) when I was a teen everyone compared me to Cassie at Ed camps and on trips to the 7th floor of the hospital cause my name is Cassandra . I've been rewatching. I have a guilty pleasure for teen shows lmao. You know what I rewatched yesterday ? Mean girls . Holy hell I forgot how much that movie triggered me. I saw it when I was a kid in 2004 and all that shit stuck with me. I was bullied bad in middle school and in eighth grade I'd watch it over and over during summer and make these lists based on looks / behaviors / outfits I saw to make myself be "hot " growing up in the early 2000s was super triggering in general to be honest.

oh my god a lot

Honestly i think cassies first episode was one of the first things that started my eating disorder. i remember browsing through netflix when i was 15 and finding skins but only watching her episode cause it looked interesting...have always had a wierd fascination with eating disorders lol

i think shes kind of the human version of what an eating disorder feels like - before you start dying that it is - like completely light and airy and in a whole other world, and of course super pretty. shes definitely the most triggering tv character for me ive found tbh

effie as well though her legs and thigh gap are insane rip

I had had an ED for nearly 6 years when I watched the show in 2018. It's now one of my favourite shows of all time. Cassie resonated a lot with me, not just with her ED but also with the Sid storyline. But she didn't trigger me and I wasn't in a relapse when I watched the show. I was 21 at the time though and I think it's different when teenagers even without EDs watch things like that, not judging though because I was also impressionable as a teenager (as we all are). Skins is completely unrealistic and those characters would never exist in the real world, but, as people have already mentioned, the show was so unique and dealt with topics which had never really been portrayed on TV before. I think that's important to remember before criticising the producers.

a whole lot

but effy was a bigger influencer for me. i wanted her aesthetic so badly hence why i also experimented with drugs in the first place
