Bagels?

Why does everyone associate bagels with fattening foods? Yeah, I know they he fat in, but they're not that bad are they? I was just thinking about it, and because I'm on a weight gain meal plan (I'm only sticking to this for a week to get camhs off my back), I'd rather eat a one bagel than two slices of bread. One bagel contains 250cals and has 1.2g of fat, whereas one piece of bread contains 100cals and 1.3g of fat. Therefore, you'll be having more fat from two pieces of bread rather than one bagel. Don't get me wrong, the fat in bagels still terrifies me, but I'd rather that than bread :/

Because of the calories?

It's not the fat content per se, it's the calories and the carbs, and depending on your diet/how cautious you are about macros, the protein content.

I rarely have bagels. I absolutely love them and if I could I'd have them regularly but I can't because they just seem like a waste of calories. I'd rather have 2 slices of bread for 160 calories instead of a bagel for 250 calories because with bread I get more for less calories. Because I restrict my calories so much I hate wasting calories on foods that aren't worth it, and in my opinion a 250 calorie bagel is definitely not worth it.

The bagels I get have 154 calories in, I love them and they are from weight watchers. I use 30/40 calories of flora and pretty much have a meal for under 200 cals :)

I love bagels but they're usually a fear food for me because they tend to make me crave more carbs/bread and binge. I think bagels are seen as bad because they have a lot more carbs than bread. They're also usually made with refined flour which can cause blood sugar spikes and its high on the glycemic index. The whole grain ones are better but you still have to make sure they are really whole grain. But if you feel more comfortable eating a bagel than bread, I'd say go for it and keep eating bagels. I don't think it's that big of an issue unless you were eating like 3 bagels a day loaded with cream cheese and were trying to lose weight.

I fear bagels. Some of them are 400 calories. They sit like a rock in my stomach anyway. I don't eat any breads anymore.

I think bagels scare me not just because of the calories in comparison to say a slice of bread or pita, but just the size of them. They're bigger, thicker, than bread and pita, denser. Also, bagels come in all varieties, and while you obviously can eat them plain or put jelly or veggies on them, they are typically eaten with cream cheese. I think that it's not so much the bagel itself, but the idea of eating say an everything bagel with full fat cream cheese that terrifies me, and when I see a plain bagel, I still associate it with that idea.

They sell mini bagels that are only 100 cals. That is the only way i can eat bagels lol

Also, people tend to put various condiments on a bagel. Whether it's cream cheese or some sort of jam - which adds MORE calories.

I think a lot of people on here have a fear of bread b/c of carbs & cals.
I don't even buy bread anymore tbh. I'd rather eat something that's more filling than a 40 calorie bread slice.

My school has these small bagels that are 172 calories, and the whole wheat ones are so filling I can honestly eat one and get through my entire day feeling super full. So bagels are my guilty pleasure :) Also, I think it depends a lot on your metabolism--I tend to burn through carbs really fast, so as long as I make sure I don't get too much fat in my diet, I usually won't gain.

I'm addicted to bagels with peanut butter. Honestly. I have to have one every day. It's horrible. I don't gain, so I keep doing it. They've become a "safe recovery food" for me and it makes no logical sense. But, damn they are tasty!
