Apart from gaining, are there ways to 'make' your period come back?

My mum has been forcing me to gain but said I can stop as soon as my period comes back. So now I am desperate to get it back without gaining. This may be a dumb question but is there a way to bring it back (without gaining of course)

Like- if I eat certain things/eat in a certain way?

Has anybody ever had their period at low BMI's?

Thanks!

I always read hot baths and milk (??), do you use birth control? You're more likely to get it when on birth control. As far as I'm concerned there is no other way to get your period back though, besides gaining, I'm sorry

I don't know how much you weight but if you do consider the pill, I just want to let you know that they usually weigh you when you ask for the pill to determine if you're healthy enough! That's at least the case in my country. Stay safe and good luck

Eating enough and taking in enough dietary fat can be helpful if you're right on the edge, though at too low of a weight/low body fat it's not going to matter. Also having higher body fat at a lower weight will make you more likely to get it (relative to having more muscle and lower body fat at the same weight), but that's not something you want for a lot of reasons.

Certain types of birth control pills make most people get it even at a very low BMI- part of the reason periods stop from anorexia is that your body doesn't have enough fat to produce the hormones needed to trigger menstruation. Birth control pills bypass this by providing an artificial version of the hormones your body needs to have a period, so typically, taken correctly, combination birth control pills will bring it back. I was taking it for a while when my BMI was as low as ~13 and still had a light but regular period every month.

If you're a minor in your parents care, depending on your parents beliefs, explaining why you need birth control without telling them it's to get your period back might be more of an obstacle, though... not sure of your age but assuming you're a minor if your mom is involved in your health to this extent! If you're in the US, most doctors will prescribe you birth control if you talk to them in private and ask not to tell your parents (though as a minor it's up to them whether or not they do tell your parents), they'd usually rather not risk it if it comes down the issue of someone not getting birth control because they're scared they'll tell their parents and ending up with an unwanted pregnancy!! Also planned parenthood clinics will typically provide free or at least cheap control if someone's in a situation where they're sexually active and would have an unplanned pregnancy. It's up to you how you ask for it if you do take that approach...

So I haven't lost my period(and fingers crossed I won't) and here's basically what I've done to make sure I don't. Before I begin note that I didn't lose an insane amount of weight, I am underweight currently but I only lost 17lbs to get there and I lost it slowly and I'm still slowing losing.

Think GBOMBS thats greens, beans, onions, mushrooms, berries, and seeds. So basically a very nutritious diet when you do eat. From what I've read on here, many people also recommend increasing your protein intake. You could try increasing fat intake as well but from what I've seen on here it may not be as important as protein. And carbs, even if you hate them, there are lots of ways to get healthy carbs.

I would also recommend vitamins/supplements if you aren't already on some. I take probiotics, prebiotics, vitamins D3 and B6 and B12, B folate, and Zinc. I'm not on this anymore but Black Kohosh (sp?) is really good for your cycle. It's also pretty cheap and may even come in a blend of other stuff good for PMS/hormones.

It is also important to make sure you are not over exercising. But be patient too bc you can lose your period after weight loss and weight gain and it can take awhile for the body to adjust

Thank you, that was very helpful, I didn't realise a lot of that!

Make sure you're getting in enough fats! So avocados, nuts, pb, etc

Take a multivitamin, eat nutrient-dense food, and eat more "healthy fats" (one of the best things I've done for myself is started getting avocado oil butter over real butter). For me, my period got more regular when I was getting all my omegas - so fish, hemp hearts, and the butter I mentioned earlier have been big helps.
