Scorpio sun here! I'm an amateur astrologer and would agree with this basic interpretation. I experience my Scorpio placements as very intense, obsessive, attracted to darkness, etc. The well-known sexual energy of the sign is fascinating, when one considers the relationship between sex and anorexia. My own restrictive eating disorder is rooted deeply in an aversion to and disgust of sexuality. Also, there's a powerful pull toward transformative energy, for better or worse, and so much energy anorexics expend is towards changing their bodies, scrutinizing with clinical interest the subtlest changes in their bodies, etc. And I hate to say it, but it's hard to talk about eating disorders without mentioning the biggest change of all, death. Death is a huge theme, as is sex, when it comes to the heart of Scorpio.

There's a a desire for desire itself in the deep waters of this sign. Hunger is such a Scorpionic sensation; when I think of the Mars rulership and the Taurus-Scorpio polarity, I think there's a strong case to be made there that eating is also a theme that's central to the sign's essence. Moreover, I think my Scorpio placements love how secretive and intimate and passionately emotional this sickness is; Marya Hornbacher's quote comes to mind: "Eating disorders provide a little private drama, they feed into the desire for constant excitement, everything becomes life-or-death, everything is terribly grand and crashing, very Sturm und Drang. And they are distracting. You don't have to think about any of the nasty minutiae of the real world, you don't get caught up in that awful boring thing called regular life, with its bills and its breakups and its dishes and laundry and groceries and arguments over whose turn it is to change the litter box and bedtimes and bad sex and all that, because you are having a real drama, not a sitcom but a GRAND EPIC, all by yourself, and why would you bother with those foolish mortals when you could spend hours and hours with a mirror, when you are having the most interesting sadomasochistic affair with your own image?"

There's so much more I could say on this, and I think there's so much beauty to this sign. It gets a bad reputation for being dark and all, but in a world of superficiality, I see Scorpio as reassuringly real. A lot of people don't even think about death much yet we will all die, and so many people take sex for granted yet it's such a sacred thing. In my opinion, no sign loves as deeply as Scorpio does. We need to be careful what we choose to set our affections on though; my own life is proof of that. I've loved my addictions and my eating disorder much better than I've loved people, but that's beside the point.

I wish someone told me when I was first getting into astrology that we are not our signs; we are souls, and we are souls who are all prone to sickness like this. Some signs will experience it in different forms than others; for example, I noted that my eating disorder has a lot to do with fear of sexuality that I developed in childhood, and I can see my eating disorder in many other areas of my chart, not just my Scorpio stellium. If I had been born with prominent Aries energy and developed an eating disorder, the root of it would probably be Arian (idk, maybe this story would involve elements of independence, physical activity, purity, etc. that feature less in my Scorpio story, less in a Capricorn's story that features themes of asceticism and being a high achiever, etc.).

This stuff interest me endlessly, and I'll end this ramble by saying that just as Scorpio energies can be devoted so strongly to self-destruction, those same obsession tendencies and drives toward transformation configure strongly when they choose recovery. I haven't chosen recovery, but I've experienced a bit of this in my journey toward sobriety. That's not just a Scorpio thing either. Libras who once let their desire to please others fuel their eating disorder could just as easily choose recovery and find that they excel at utilizing social support systems to heal. These energies are all archetypal & we can partner with them, and I just don't want anyone to think they are doomed to have an eating disorder because they're this or that sign, to conflate their sign with their eating disorder, to blame their sign, etc.
Wow, I really enjoyed reading this and I found myself in lots of characteristics.

I don't believe in that sort of stuff too much. But I'm a Gemini, split personality kind of makes sense

so i'm a cancer lol.
I actually have an astrology book that mentions illnesses that all the signs are prone to and cancers are prone to gastrointestinal illnesses and eating disorders. do with that what you will lol. cancers are often known for being big eaters bc they love making food so that could lead to a lot of cancers having ed. I don't really know the science behind though so don't quote me lol.

EDs are not selective, they dont care for your age/gender/color/race or location, they dont care for your star sign.

I'm a Taurus, I'm not seriously into astrology but we're supposedly "the biggest foodie" of all zodiacs.
same, seriously as if we need another reminder that its not a food problem its a life problem that came out somehow on food
😒
taurus stigma is a cozy staborn foodie that stays in pajama all week

I'm a Leo...I do think it possibly has some level of influence over us, but not to this extent. Environmental factors, upbringing, trauma etc are far more to blame for eds

I personally don’t think eating disorders have anything to do with when you’re born. Even though I strongly believe in astrology/spirituality and find value in it, I see it more as a tool for self-reflection and understanding personality traits, not something that dictates serious conditions. Eating disorders, in my view, come from a mix of genetics, environment, cultural pressures, and personal experiences, traumas etc… not planetary alignments. Astrology can help me make sense of how I process emotions or navigate relationships, but when it comes to mental health, I think the roots are far more scientific and psychological than astrological.

I will avoid discussing my sign because people can use it to hurt me, but I’ll still say this: I don’t believe eating disorders have anything to do with the date you’re born. Even though I do believe in astrology and find meaning in it, I see it as a way to reflect on my personality and patterns, not as something that influences EDs. :)
