I was prescribed Buspar to help with my anxiety.

Did you lose or gain with Buspar?

What was your overall experience like?

I just got a Rx for this yesterday and was wondering the same thing! Any bad side effects to look out for, even besides weight gain?
I just got mine today and it is making me headachy, nauseous and sleepy. Not taking it again. But you may have a different experience. I would recommend askapatient.com. It's an excellent site which contains about 300 or so reviews on Buspar and anything else you can think of. Also re symptoms it's very drying, and I am dehydrated a lot anyway.

Crap I was worried about possible drying side effects! I'm always somewhat dehydrated too. 😑 I also am concerned about excessive drowsiness since it's something I'll be taking twice a day. Would be great for night but not during work hours. Guess I'll wait till I'm off this weekend to give it a try in case s/e are too harsh. Thanks for sharing your experience!

In the beginning I did have some weird side effects, like really vivid dreams (an uncommon side effect) and some muscle tremors (but that could be one of my other diagnoses causing that). I stuck it out and have been taking it for about 6 months. It's helps me a lot. I also take Prozac but that doesn't make me gain either. They help my anxiety a lot though.

I lost a ton of weight while taking it. I was restricting food before, during and after taking it and it didn't slow my weight loss. I was too upset to remember to eat lol. As long as you don't over eat it's fine. I hate that stuff though. It made me stop being able to breastfeed the first time I took one, that's a known side effect but my doctor didn't care to warn me. They didn't help my anxiety either, not strong enough. I had panic attacks and would hyperventilate and cry constantly. They put me on benzos until I calmed down a little. However those increase dementia risk if taken long term and a lot of doctors won't prescribe them anyway because so many people abuse them. I hope the buspar works for you. Definitely don't worry about it making you gain weight, it won't.

I fell asleep right after taking it even though I took my ADHD stims at the same time.

Wait, how long have you been on it? I started on 10 and it was affecting me too much. That's when my doctor told me most people start on 7.5mg and work their way up. If you are started on 15mg, that seems like way too much to start =/
Yes, it was way too much to start. The psych did not listen to me when I said I was very sensitive to medication. What an utter and complete asshole.
