Is it actually that bad? Like I get it would be dangerous if someone ate them a lot, but if someone only ate a few a couple of times, would it be OK? Also what are the actual risks?

It's not that I just don't understand what actually happens when someone eats them, like do they just sit in your stomach, and is it as dangerous as everyone makes it out to be?
stomach acid is meant to digest food

anything else is dangerous and should not be ingested cause it cant be digested

In most cases it just passes through you, but if you are unlucky you can get an intestinal obstruction, which is life threatening.

If this doesn't deter you: I tried it, and it doesn't really do anything against hunger. You're better off drinking a cup of tea.

I used to eat tissues when I was a kid lol because I just liked eating them. Cotton balls is a stupid idea. Idk who came up with it. When I was a kid I was constipated all the time from my tissue consumption

It is as dangerous as people make it out to be. Please don't eat any at all. Even just a few may hurt you. Never eat anything that isn't food ♥

To be honest, I've had the same questions as you. And I wish people would just give straight answers: yes its obviously dangerous, but my question is why? What will happen?

So the main concern is a bowel blockage called a beozar, which needs to be surgically removed. When indigestible fibers (like hair, some plant fibers, and of course cotton) are consumed, they often don't pass through the body. Now, you want to know the occasional risks rather than chronic. While this is mostly a chronic thing, it actually can become dangerous fast. Or at least really fucking uncomfortable, trust me. I got something similar from bulimia's lovely digestive effects (not a beozar and not indigestible thank god) and ended up in the emergency room because of the pain. Even if I didn't need surgery, I was at that level of pain for two weeks.

Now, if a full out blockage doesn't occur, you can expect some nutritional issues. The cotton will make it harder for your body to absorb important nutrients, at least while its in your intestinal tract.

Another thing is that there are actually toxins in cotton that can make you quite sick.

And of course, there is always a very real choking hazard. Even soaked, the cotton ball poises a risk as it cannot be chewed, and absorbs liquid from the mouth and throat.

Thank-you so so much this helped a lot xx

It's dangerous because it's a foreign body, once it reaches your stomach i'll most likely get stuck to the stomach wall or intestines (if you put a cotton ball on your tongue you'll notice the fibers that get stuck there). Once it's stuck in there it can cause an intestinal blockage which if not surgically removed could cause your stomach to rupture which will kill you if not fixed immediately. Long story short there's more of a downside to this then you may think.

Why would you want to?

I mean, if you're seriously craving an intestinal obstruction, then I guess I would recommend it.

Yes, eating cotton balls is dangerous and can lead to many serious complications, including death.

Unfortunately, this IS something that I must say in the event anyone lurking MPA sees this thread and gets any ideas.

DO NOT EAT COTTON BALLS.

So now I'm locking this thread as I don't want any harmful or misinformation to be disseminated.
