For years I've been (irrationally) scared of fruit, especially the 'big' ones like apples, pears, bananas... And while I've been consistently adding more carbs such as bread and rice, fruit has remained a fear because I can't include it in my meals that are always savory and I'm terrified of snacking inbetween.

I've been thinking about having my first apple in years tomorrow.
I know the calories aren't high and it's healthy and all that stuff... But do you have any tips on how to include fruit so I won't experience bloating and digestive issues? Before or after my meal? Or as a desert after lunch for example?

With high fiber fruit like apples, make sure to chew it well. I eat a lot of berries mostly because they still contain fiber and are even lower calorie. Plus they have antioxidants and more good things I think. I will sometimes eat them as a snack or for breakfast. I found that to be the best time for me and way to eat them. Berries also are great as a "dessert".

Fruit will make you less bloated than vegetables, no matter what you eat so please keep that in mind. Many people will encourage eating bell peppers and salads all day when in reality that’s a recipe for bloating and gas.
Start with berries. It’s been a long time since you had any so make sure they look and smell good in the package.
I’d recommend eating some later in the day, just to see if you bloat.
You might since your body isn’t used to processing fruit anymore BUT it might not happen and it’ll go away once your body re-familiarizes itself with fruit.
Start slow, but berries do expire within a few days.
Realistically, fruit won’t do a single negative thing to you. I don’t hate carbs (I eat them too) but carbs are more likely to have an impact than fruit.
The natural sugars in fruit don’t turn into fat the way processed sugar does, the fiber will help you go to the bathroom. There’s other necessary nutrients in there too that’ll probably help you mentally feel sharper.
Take it slow, breathe through it.
Also, when you do start eating apples I’d recommend just eating half of one first. They can be a lot when you re-introduce them.
Fear food are fear foods, but you truly have nothing to fear with fruit

You may be eating fruit without realizing it- not saying this to frighten you, but help you to overcome your fear by seeing this logically. Most people incorrectly think of many fruits as vegetables because they’re savory vs sweet. Tomato, avocado, cucumber, eggplant, zucchini, olives- all fruits. Fruits have and contain their own seeds.

I tell you this to help you understand if you’re already eating fruits you thought were vegetables and they don’t bloat you, you can rest assured that incorporating other fruits likely won’t either.

I tend to bloat more from cruciferous vegetables than anything. I will say bananas are a fear of mine, but most other fruits aren’t.

definitely start with something like berries.m so it's less overwhelming.
or what about you try to have maybe like a sorbet as a treat? it's going to be easier to digest + not that high in cals + a bit fancier than raw fruit so it'll make you happy 💜
