i find their content offputting. could be for many reasons but i get the sense that they romanticise sickness in a way. obv i think they’re brave for being so candid and sharing stuff about mental illnesses on a public platform but it comes off a little woe-is-me sometimes. idk, this sounds rude and judgmental but it’s how i genuinely feel. sometimes the content feels almost….. intentionally triggering?

still wish them the best in their health and journey. i just don’t think that a youtube channel revolving around all these bad things helps because to me it seems that it’s more of an obsession they have with all this stuff, than the channel being a source of catharsis.
unrelated but i like your dg pfp :D

"Pretentious" is too strong a word for my general indifference. I like some, I don't like some.
We're similar age, and just... not my vibe (and I'm pletny alternative too). Idk how to explain it. Wouldn't be my friend irl? Would make me roll my eyes a lot? Not that thats that important for a youtuber (so many thats english!), but with the kind of hard experience/opinion content they have, maybe its a little more important to have a perceived connection.
Or maybe its because I remember the internet too

I really like them. The stories, the aesthetic etc. Maybe it's because I'm also alternative. I don't find them relatable but I do find find entertaining and they do know how to tell a good story.

I think… just my opinion but he has BPD. I have BPD but have lived a much raunchier life with a very heavy club kid/goth and sex worker past so I know where he is coming from and he is edgy as a 90s mall goth (which was basically a slur if you lived in the city and went to clubs back in the early nineties,) yes Dorian acts elitist but it’s nothing compared to what real city club goths were like back in the day.

Anyway, I think Dorian knows they make triggering content, I think they enjoy being shocking, I think they are terrified of being irrelevant and getting old, but I think many of us are. I won’t say anything more because they are here but there are other people just like them out there… no one is really unique… I watch ballet and even those primas are not completely unique and they work their entire lives for the art and shape their bodies and feet unlike any of us. I love watching triggering content but after watching after some BP stuff he was taking about was just ridiculous… I don’t want to get into it. I have seen some Lolita’s do some hilarious takedowns and I have to say he deserves it. He is smart enough to understand what he is creating so he can be held accountable for his work and should be able to stand by it.

I don't watch any of their videos besides the ED ones and sometimes the drug ones. I'm not huge into the goth aesthetic anymore but I love the way they tell stories about the early days of pro-ana content online. I also unfortunately use their videos to trigger myself lol. I don't have many deep opinions on them besides liking their ED videos and feeling comforted by them + their stories.

I've watched Dorian for a really long time. I found him when I was looking for vampire book recs during the height of my goth/emo phase in college (2015-2016). It's very impressive that he went from 20k or so subscribers when I found him to now... I know he struggles to have employment so I am happy this is a full time job he enjoys and can stick with. I love to have his videos on in the background and find his posh accent really soothing to listen to not to mention his incredible ability to tell stories. However... I think his recent white knighting for EC is very disappointing for me personally. He claims people only want to kick EC off of YouTube for "being sick" while there are actually a host of other reasons (blatant predators in her community, purposeful flashing on YouTube which violates their TOC, disregarding the privacy of strangers in the background of her fetish content videos [which generally isn't against any TOC as far as I can tell but I just find it rude especially when she kept a clip of a DollsKill employee's exposed breast in her video for DAYS which is against TOC], etc.).

Dorian's ED has clearly come back with full force, and although I enjoy listening to his nostalgia project videos, it's clear he's still pretty enamored with his anorexia and I don't think it's just a warning/historical video like he pretends. I also think defending EC shows how he's lost some of his objectivity because of his ED. He only came out wholeheartedly defending EC after he received tons of criticism for relapsing.

Edit: updated to reflect Dorian's current preferred pronouns

Btw just saying he doesn't go by she/her pronouns anymore.

Honestly I watch their videos while I’m on the elliptical. Helps pass the time and before I know it, bam, an hour has passed and I’m ready to move on with my day. Gives my ed it’s own space in my day and time to just acknowledge it and then sort of go back to my day in a way. 🌻

I'm a writer like them and I like their stuff because we both have a sort of goth undertone about our very beings. Not sure what it is about Dorian but I feel like we are very similar personality-wise.

That being said, I do think there are some descriptive words they tend to overuse in their storytelling like 'lurid' 'gratuitous' etc and by the way they describe the feeling of being fat vs the feeling of being a floaty little ED girl/boy/etc, just describing it like that is sort of icky. I do understand they were trying to describe the feeling of having an ED and they definitely got it spot on. I adore their storytelling and the way it just gets to those who relate. They constantly make me feel like I'm not sick enough until I get down to a "shockingly low weight" so I can have the satisfying story. Even though that is the specific thing they advocate against, they still have gotten there themselves and will jump at every opportunity to bring it up.

I just wanna be like them so I can dance a skeletal jig and say "Yes, I am the thin white duke!" (reference to their video about Italy, my absolute favorite video of theirs that makes me wanna chug 3 Diet Cokes!)

They do put TWs but, even as they themselves acknowledge it, those TW'd videos are just a magnet for people looking to get triggered (I personally have been known to watch all her ED playlist like 10 times at least, mostly while working out or fasting). I swear I hope my post alone isn't triggering anybody but I figure it's safer for me to make a comment like this here (where we are already suffering) than on a public Youtube video where there could be those not in the know.

Lastly, they have several longform videos waffling on miss Eugenia Cooney. Their most recent one was about a certain tiktoker who was obsessed with EC. But I, daresay, feel like Dorian themself is slightly obsessed with that girl, so they aren't really one to speak. Could be the goth side of her attracted to death and decay.

Anyway, TL;DR is I enjoy Dorian's content a lot, and I love their writing and makeup and their damn beautiful speaking voice. I can see how they are a bit self-pitying and hard to watch at times, considering they pin (can't think of a better word) everything and anything on their mental disorders. But again, there are also a few people with severe mental illnesses in my family, who are in the same predicament as Dorian, so I do have firsthand understanding on those types of people and why/how their mental disorders can quite literally seem to take over their lives. Having OCD myself, it can be hell and definitely crippling, especially obsessing over words and wondering if you are secretly offending everyone and are about to be booted off. (but I am going to take the plunge and post anyway ;p)

Oh whoops that was supposed to be a TL;DR. Well here is the real one: Dorian is cool but they are also very unstable and come off as triggering. If you're looking for that kind of stuff and are also into the more 'lurid' type of storytelling and themes, they are a good person to watch. Otherwise, there are some other ED Youtubers who are a bit less jarring.

Though I personally appreciate the less put-together-ness of Dorian than some of the proper-lighting-having, bright-color-enjoying storytime YTers! ^^

Not my thing. They read off a prewritten script with excessively flowery language for the whole duration of their videos which is annoying for me and I don’t like the way they approach ed content (esp for ppl outside the community). I agree w a lot of ppl here abt how their videos are triggering. I used to watch for triggers too but I don’t think it’s good to capitalize off of it

Just listened to their latest video. Love them.
