Ketosis

Anyone restrict calories on a low carb/high fat ketosis diet? It really helps with hunger and really decreases binge urges since I started. I get most of my cal from a couple cups of bulletproof tea or coffee everyday. I suggest looking into it if you haven't. Makes it so easy to stay under 1000 cal (my average goal). Though warning- I was fairly low carb to begin it. If you have been eating mostly carbs the switch will make you feel like crud for a week or two, I have read. I've been doing this since Jan 1st and lost 10 lbs... only b/p'ed once.

I eat low calorie keto. I love it. I focus on protein so I don't have issues with energy or hair loss. Be wary of only taking in bulletproof coffees, though. I did that for about a month, and I lost significant weight rapidly, but also lost a lot of hair and had bad dizzy spells after awhile.

Yeah, I eat a lot (well, a lot within my restriction) salmon and other seafood to keep my protein up too. :)

What would a meal plan to get into keto look like? Just tons of protein?

Protein and healthy fats are the focus. If you are low carb you don't want to be too low fat and very high protein because the body will process the excess protein like sugar... I am not a science brain, but my father, who is a 40 year of practice physician, explained the metabolic process to me, I just am unable to correctly repeat it. :)

Love this. I do this too it's the way to go!! Although it was hard for me because I ate a tonnnnnn of carbs before it so I still get super dizzy and almost pass out it throw up doing this! It's hard for me to work out to when I am doing this I feel weak, maybe that's just me though. Definitely do it if you're having trouble losing weight!!!!!!! Xo

I do keto too and love it!

Off topic but can one of you tell me how to make bulletproof coffee??
Mix MCT oil and a tablespoon of melted butter (supposed to be two tablespoons, but one is fine) with a cup of coffee. BLEND with a magic bullet or a blender (this is important because it is not the same otherwise... It makes it smooth instead of an oil slick!) ... I love bulletproof coffee, it's so much more effective than regular coffee and when I drink it I don't have to eat all day!

My dad and sister do this and have lost a lot of weight. I would love to do it, but I'm a long distance runner, and I'm afraid to make the switch because I don't know how to fuel properly for long runs. It'll be a few months yet, but maybe after this training cycle I'll do it.

Look up Targeted Keto, you're going to need to take in some carbs before a workout to give your muscles the glycogen they need to perform properly. You'll burn the fuel while you work out and then go right back into ketosis. Should work for the poster above who mentioned she can't work out on Keto because she's tired; it's because her body doesn't have any glycogen and is running on ketones.

Every body is different on how long it takes to get into deep keto and how low carbs need to be to be there as well. I never went through carb flu (the sickness when you switch from eating a high carb diet to low carb) because my mom was low carb for years and I slowly cut back and back on carbs over the years...

My bulletproof coffee consists of roughly 10 oz black coffee, 1 tbs coconut oil (or pure MCT oil when we have it) and 1 tbs kerrygold (GRASS FED) butter (ghee works too, but I don't care for it), and a bit of liquid stevia blended with an emersion blender. It is also delicious to make bulletproof tea. I make decaf or herbal tea bulletproof for a night time treat. The trick is to blend in the butter and oil into the hot water then immediately add the teabag to steep. Otherwise, if you steep first, you have to re-heat the tea before adding and blending the butter and oil.

I keep hearing about bulletproof coffee, now I've gotta try it. One question though...is the immersion blender you use like one of those "blender stick" things you just insert in a cup to blend liquids?

I ask because my kitchen is small and I don't want to go out and buy a blender just for this.

Is normal coffee not allowed on ketosis?

Yes, it's the blender that's like a stick- and it came with the big cup (if you see what they use to make malts and shakes at ice cream shops, it's like that). It's great and doesn't take up much space. Have no idea what they cost, though- it was a Christmas gift couple years ago.

No, black coffee won't throw you out of ketosis, but bulletproof coffee is a good way to get good fats into your diet, and it does wonders for curbing hunger. Yeah, it's like 250 calories, but then I am not hungry at all the entire day if I have one in the morning :)

I eat low fat low carb low calorie. And low protein technically I guess. Wtf do I eat? Ha.

I kick started keto with a 2 day fast and since then just didn't eat any carbs or sugar. No fruit or anything.

I bought ketone testing strips so I can say for sure I've been in ketosis for weeks now.

I'm currently living on only 10 hours of pay per week. I can't afford to eat most days, so buying more expensive protein sources as commonly used in a keto diet is just out of my budget. But being broke is making my fasting and restricting a lot easier, though :p

How do you cut out carbs like that when restricting? I find that quite hard, when I restrict I have a higher % of carb intake than when I eat "normal amounts".

Can't think of what to eat other than protein shakes and egg whites lol

Lean meat and fish, green veges. That's about all I eat actually...but that's low carb low fat low calorie.
