Oats has more calories than pasta and rice, plus is very fast to cook and you can eat it virtually with wathever you want!

Every time I have it in my house I keep binging on it, so I don't buy it anymore 🙅‍♀️

...how come it is a safe food for a lot of people with eds?

it's not for me. it was ages ago 'cause if i only had a single measured portion, it was more filling than a lot of other small portions of... anything. but as time went on i both got sick of it and i'd rather get less calories, just period. plus it's really just not good only sweetened with sweetener or berries lmao that gets so fucking old

It might have more calories than pasta and rice per gram (?) but not per portion. You can eat a nice, filling, perfectly-okay-to-eat-on-its-own meal for 100-200 calories with oats. That much rice or pasta (eaten plain?) would be a sad sad meal.

The oats I used to buy was like 380 kcal per 100 gr, while rice and pasta around 350.

Anyway when I work at lunch I usually eat 30 gr of brown rice, mixed with cauliflower rice and a lot of veggies and spices... Still around 200 kcal, filling and good.

Because it's literally my fav food haha, always has been. I lost the most weight I ever have in a short time-frame, eating nothing but oatmeal. It's never wronged me.

The instant oatmeal I have at my house is only 160 calories per serving. I've found that warm things make me feel full longer and oatmeal is my go to food now. It's not too high calorie, it's filling, and I can make so many different flavors by adding flax seeds, cinnamon, almond milk, coconut milk, chocolate, etc. Also, I'm a singer and warm things like oatmeal are good for your throat, so I pretty much eat it all the time before gigs and stuff.

I actually haven't eaten it in forever, mostly because I associate it with breakfast and winter. It's summer and I can't remember the last time I had an actual breakfast

But I consider it safe because:

Can buy in individual packets for single serving

Make with water for less calories

Fast and easy

Often minimally processed

Takes on the flavor of basically whatever you want

Filling, it doesn't take much to feel full

Whereas pasta, I need like a full box of Kraft to feel full on that stuff. And I've never really been crazy for rice.

I love oatmeal, rolled oats aren't refined carbs so they are really good for you and filling, plus you can add fruits and spices to it! Yes it has a lot of calories and its definatly not an everyday, or even once a week food, but its a great treat and really good to have if you know you're gonna be super busy and active all day! That way you won't binge, especially thinking about the calories in the oatmeal you had earlier.

I like having savory oats for breakfast when I have to eat before important exams or laboratory work.

I buy 130 calorie packets and make 1/4 - 1/2 a packet and then top it with an egg or egg whites, a sprinkle parmesan cheese, & veggies or mushrooms. It's very filling & tastes amazing. It also helps me not be mildly disgusted by the texture & appearance of plain oatmeal.

With pasta, I am never satisfied after an under 100 calorie serving and am tempted to eat more.

Eat plain rolled oats with water or something that has next to no flavor; ie unsweetened nut milks. No sweetener, no prepackaged sugar loaded stuff. It becomes safe real quick, really you can have my oats if you want cause I only rarely can stand them even when I throw in a good amount of berries.

the instant oats i have are 100 calories per serving.
i can have oatmeal with real sugar and some fruit for like 150 calories-i haven't had pasta in years because that is easily a 500-700 calorie affair.

It's low on the glycemic index, which means it'll give you energy throughout the day rather than just a burst of energy. Pasta will only give you energy for a short amount of time because it's usually extremely processed. I don't eat oatmeal often, but at least I don't eat pasta. I do eat quinoa which is a lot better than oatmeal.

I find it much more filing than rice or pasta. It's also easy to measure out a small bit and cook it. Pasta is a no-go for me since macaroni is a comfort food and i used to eat heaping bowls of it as a child so I don't trust myself with it. I can't cook just a bit of rice at a time - I find it either undercooks or sticks to the pot if I try to make a 100 calorie portion. If I make more than one portion of rice at a time, I end up binging on it.

I like using quick oats (so just oats, nothing added) as a base when I'm craving something sweet or savory - 20 grams of oats cooked in water with half an apple and a bit of cinnamon is delicious when I want a sweet treat. It's 120 calories, is filling to me and not something I would binge on. It's worth it to me when the alternative is a 350 calorie cupcake that I'm likely to eat multiples of if I buy a package...
