this is fantastic!!! what was the project? i love neuroscience
Thank you !!!!!! And the project was quite open, but we had to research and explain a neuroscientific mechanism, and then make a creative metaphor for it. I ended up discussing, surprising absolutely nobody, the genetic propensities behind development of anorexia (looking at why only a small portion of people seem to be biologically triggered by energy deficits in a culture where weight loss culture is more than common) :> I focused specifically on a biochemical chain reaction, in which a mutation occurs at the locus for an enzyme called HDAC4 (histone deacetylase 4), that results in overexpression, which ends up suppressing a nuclear receptor protein called ESRRA (estrogen related receptor alpha), which plays a key role in mediating mitochondrial metabolism during energy deficits. so basically when the mutation occurs it's significantly more likely that a person will be triggered into abnormal metabolic states (which are closely corelated with the development of AN - since people are beginning to consider it as a possibly metabolic disorder at its root). I wrote soooo much on it but I don't wanna ramble or retype it lol . anyway I made a metaphor using a fantasy ecosystem where different creatures represented different proteins and genes in the chain of events of HDAC4 mutation :>

btw how do you hide images when quoted?i don't know how to do that or spoil things
I think to hide it, you just manually remove it from the quote, and to spoiler you have to do

but without the spaces lol

A silly rough comic page! Shyanne Hunter is one of my most beloved recent OCs, she’s a vietnam vet, American immigrant (to Australia), corporate slave, and the protagonist of the comic book I’m planning (that will realistically never ever be made) called The Dyke’s Guide to Corporate Australia .

It’s a silly old romance about Shyanne and her CFO, Gilda-Leah Folksman who’s a bisexual buried deeeeep in the comphet closet. Lots of themes of loss and family, and the two have a key bond in that they were both in love with a person with an eating disorder who died because of it (Shyanne’s late girlfriend Ruth, who served as a nurse alongside her and passed due to a ruptured esophagus as a result of her bulimia, and Gilda-Leah’s late husband Russell, who passed from cardiac arrest after an inpatient admission). I know that it’s a bit grim but it’s important to me to explore that side of EDs in my art because it’s really not something we can afford to ignore. Anyway Shyanne’s main journey is that she makes some significant progress in healing from PTSD and her relationship with death and her own suicidality evolves for the better after her father Angus passes away, and Gilda-Leah’s main journey is that she partially reconciles with her son Luka (who resents her because of Russell’s death) and accepts herself as a bisexual woman despite her age and internalised heteronormativity. They both also find closure in regards to their partners’ lives and deaths and there’s just generally a lot of mutual healing and lesbian kissing.

Unfortunately I’m horrible at bringing projects to completion, so it’s really unlikely that The Dyke’s Guide to Corporate Australia will ever see the light of day 🥲

I redid a doodle from 2021, and woaaaaa , it's amazing how positively drawing for myself instead of drawing for others impacted my style. if it's not obvious from the 2021 version I was a victim of those stupid how to draw manga tutorial books and just. the general hype around the "anime" art style . I have absolutely nothing against the latter because it is a gorgeous style, but I feel like the overhyping pushes MANY starting artists into a sort of peer pressure state where they feel like they have to emulate what they perceive to be popular in order to have worth as an artist. anyway, it's nice to see how far I've come! (even if I still have so much further to go)

Working on a new artist persona!! I love drawing my fursona/dogsona but it doesn't feel like he represents me fully as an artist; I wanted something to capture how multifaceted and occasionally peculiar my creative process is...

...so, allow me to introduce you to Dog!!!!!!
DO YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE??? ...it was made in a research facility , when a scientist was very hungry and dropped an ebi katsu (from their lunch that they were eating in the fucking lab because they were greedy and stupid) into a vat of embryonic fluid that had a genetically modified canine fetus inside. they were still very very hungry so they reached inside the vat but they couldn't reach it (very sad!) so they gave up; what they didn't know was the fetus which had eyes and could see (because it was a fucked up little science creature) saw the hand. with the power of fictionally misrepresented stem cell technology, magic, and Puppy Love and Whimsicality , the canine embryo fused with the ebi katsu and also decided to grow human hands because it liked the way they looked. thus, Dog was born (?))

the last pic is me w my friend who asked to be drawn in a similar style but w unagi (their fav seafood dish lol) . we'll just say they were created in a similar way but the fetus was a rabbit one and their researcher was secretly a shark in a human costume so they have rabbit feet and a (not pictured) shark tail 👍👍👍

so far, I really like dog and its fucked up sanrio ass backstory. I also like drawing it and the element of quirkiness so I really hope I stay attached and can continue to use dog as a persona in the future

ok so its not EXACTLY art but I wanted to post my computer because it took me a while to decorate, and I'm quite proud of the way it ended up 😁😁 think of it as collage, lol
