I want to know your best low-cal desert recipes!

Please no handful of strawberries nonsense please 😂

Occasionally I'll get a hankering for a real desert, mostly cake/cookies etc. I'll sometimes let myself have some once a week or two, but I always purge it. I'm trying not to put myself in that situation, so I'm wondering what y'all's favorites are.

For example, I made these awesome air-fried apple rings the other day and the whole plate was ~200 calories (and would have been less if I didn't eat all the leftover batter).

Recipe:

1/4 cup flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

Enough Almond milk to make a pancake batter consistency

A couple pumps of Jordan's Zero Calorie Vanilla Syrup

1/2 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice

1 Apple

I cut up the apple into rings, dipped it into the batter and then air fried them at 380 for 5 minutes! They def satisfied my craving for something bready and sweet.

Ty guys!!

Mug cakes!! There's tons of recipes online and a lot of them are only 100 kcal or so so you can sneak it into your calories for the day. Plus, I love them because they're so versatile. You can basically make whatever flavor you want as long as you have the add-ons and the base ingredients. It reminds me of a cheap souffle lmao.

This isn't something for bread/pastry cravings, sorry, but I've also been enjoying making london fogs? It's literally earl grey tea, vanilla extract, milk of choice, and low-cal sweetener. I'm definitely a tea person and there's something about warm drinks that are really satisfying and make me feel full for hours.

i'm gonna go with the good old fibre one bar, microwaved for 10-15 seconds, and the lowest cal whipped cream you can slap on top. michelin star chefs are quaking.
Not me omw to get fiber one bars lmfao

Lately been having those aero chocolate mousse pots. They're 93kcals per pot.

If I remember correctly the rolo ones are less calories and I think they taste better too, but Tesco expresss doesn't sell them and I can't be arsed to go to my local big Tesco. (This is UK btw, I'm not sure where you are)

I just really like a slightly undercooked brownie-in-a-mug:

  • 3 TB flour
  • 2 TB sugar (I hate sweetener flavor in desserts, so I use sugar lmao)
  • 1 1/2 TB Dutch cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 3 TB water (I sometimes use my protein milk instead)
  • 1 TB butter/oil (can use applesauce if you want)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp sea salt

If I make it with the highest calorie everything, then it's ~280 cals, but can sub sweetener, water, and applesauce for <200 cals.

Sometimes I just freeze banana slices for dessert haha

usually I treat coffee from starbucks as desserts, so I make low calorie versions of coffees I like from starbucks as a treat.
then for actual desserts, I like to cut the chocolate brownie quest bars into pieces. I like halo top too, those are both really simple but I just thought of... you could bake the quest bar (or you could do it with a microwaved fiber one bar too, I just prefer quest bars because it's the only way I eat protein) and then make a sundae with a scoop of halo top and maybe some fat free whipped cream and sugar free hershey's syrup if you wanted something kinda decadent? you could add anything else you wanted too.
a lot of people say to microwave or bake a quest bar but most people don't include instructions which made it super hard for me when I first did it, but I preheat my oven to 350, cut the quest bar into like 4-8 pieces usually, and bake it for 5 mins on one side and about 3 on the other side.

I make a HUGE bowl (a family sized salad bowl) of protein "ice cream" for ~100 kcals, 11g protein.
But half or third the kcals as I can't ever finish it, as it's so volumous.

15g protein (ideally casein)
125g sf cream soda (or even milk, you choose)
200g ice
80g frozen berries
Liquid sweetener or flavour drops of choice
1/4 - 1/2 tsp guar gum

Blend everything but the guar gum in a blender (not sure what else you would blend in... defo not a fridge)

Once it's smooth throw it a cake mixer (or use an electric whisk) and add the gum. Mix on high for 5-10mins et voilà.

I'm serious about the volume. Be prepared.

I really like "keto and co" brownies and banana-caramel muffins. Like most sugar-free stuff, they taste much better at least a few hours after they've cooled/set, so it's easier to make a pan of them, slice them into my preferred portion sizes, then wrap and freeze them. The brownies are especially fudgy straight out of the freezer!

I also make a lot of stuff with carbquik. I use the easy carbquik golden cake recipe from their box/website, but with almond milk. Then I add my own mix-ins to change up flavors depending on what I'm in the mood for (cinnamon/sugar, chocolate chips, shredded coconut, almond extract, banana extract and walnuts, whatever!)

What's the difference between xanthan gum and guar gum? Can they be used interchangeably? I have xanthan gum on hand at home but haven't ever used guar.

I think guar is better for smoothies and ice cream, and xantham is better for baking. However you can use either :) I used to use xantham.

I found these Chocolate pudding/cream meal replacement that taste incredible. I love them! They are 204 cal but they are big and they keep you so full for hours + lots of nutrients and vitamins.
If I crave something sweet, I eat that instead of whatever soup or low cal meal I had planned to eat. I know it's not technically a desert but it does the trick and I know exactly what's in them so less stress
