is the 81-58-84 rule accurate?? i’m about 168-170 cm and have a 67 cm waist and 94 cm hips does that mean i don’t have the build for ballet? i’m training so much and my teacher and some of my classmates said i’m very talented and i train every day to try to go pro will my hips/waist jeopardize that? i’m already around bmi 18-18.5 does that mean i have to lose more? i have practically no boobs anyway so that part isn’t the issue but will i have to give up my dream because my hips are too wide? i could only reach those measurements doing extreme low res and not growing or gaining muscle in my lower body whicch is difficult with ballet and otherwise everything fits like i accidentally kicked a girl in the face during class because my extensions are so high and i live and breathe ballet and even my teacher who almost never gives compliments directly said i was very good so does my body mean that i’ll have to give up wanting to do ballet professionally?? i really hope not and i know standards are changing but i also know that it’s changing slowly and i really really want to become a professional ballerina :( thoughts?

As you said - standards are changing, ballet dancers are usually healthy skinny, not stick-thin (especially in Europe or the US there are no "skeleton" dancers, even in Russia girls look healthier than in videos from Vaganova from the 90's). These days they look more at the technique than the body + I belive you look amazing and you shouldn't change anything about your appearance. Focus on the things that are more important to you. You are talented and for sure can become professional ballerina ❤

btw never try self-harm if you didn't yet (I feel like I'll never be able to quit and - a bit stupid but still a reason - really hard to hide cuts under white tights). Sorry for adding this part but I felt like I need to mention this 😅

thank you!! i’m just irked by the vaganova weight chart ig but it’s good to hear that things are changing as much as i thought they were 💙 i’ve only cut a few times before (twice i believe) and it never left a noticeable scar but thank you for the warning and i hope you can find a better outlet for your emotions soon!! (i started singing musical songs because they have so much emotion and i also started playing the sims and writing down one thing i was grateful for every time i wanted to harm myself 💙 i hope it works for you!!) thank you for everything and i hope you can recover soon and also quick q you mentioned you fainted on stage is that still the case?? if so i hope it stops soon 💙

I'm trying to recover for a week now (fainting on stage - terrifying experience but I have a reason to stay in recovery) so I feel a bit better (physically), mentally - not really (yesterday I self harmed like an hour before I had to leave and couldn't stop the bleeding so I didn't go to ballet class, felt guilty about that so cut even more🤦‍♀️) but I know that recovery takes a lot of time so I'll stay patient

"writing down one thing i was grateful for every time i wanted to harm myself" - really good idea, thank you❤ I'll try

and I wish you good luck in achieving your goals❤❤❤

yeah i’m trying to recover too but i know that the keyword is “trying” lol but please try to stop the sh the blood loss is also gonna fuck up your iron levels even more than restricting does and you seem like a really compassionate and empathetic person so please try to remember that you are worthy and enough and that you wouldn’t treat anyone else in the same situation the same way and you are a being worthy of love and care and think about you when you were little and if you would hurt that you because right now that’s what you’re doing when i get overwhelmed i also channel that desperation and energy into training ballet and it’s helped my jumps MASSIVELY because i just strap on my ankle weights and practice jumping until i’m too tired to cry or get angry i always live by the mantra turn the pain into power and i know that this whole reply has been one long sentence and is probably really confusing to read but please remember that even people who don’t know you care about you and that i wish you a successful and long career as a dancer and that you are worthy of everything and more and you deserve to rest and you deserve to be taken care of and you deserve to truly LIVE and please don’t throw those things away for temporary relief 💙

Ballet is a very very physically demanding thing. You need to be fit and healthy and you don't want to ruin your dream just because of your measurements. A BMI of 18-18.5 is low enough.

Just focus on living your dream. That's all that really matters.

Maybe that's a question for your teacher? They would be more likely to know than anyone here. Unless someone here is a professional ballerina.

yeah i’ll try to ask my school head because my teacher has a class directly after mine without breaks and also before mine so it’s pretty hard to ask her questions about anything but my school head is also friends with my mom so i’ll give it a try!! thank you!!

From what I know those measurement are for models. For ballet skill is what matters. Besides, with those measurements you mention you have you are really skinny anyway.
idk i just remember someone saying that those measurements are for ballerinas and it stuck with me :/ but thank you!! i just wish i saw it myself lol
