I went vegan for reasons totally unrelated to ED so I never crave meat, but oh my GOSH do I crave tofu! I can't because I'm zero waste and I'd have to make it myself to avoid the wrapper but I just want to take a big hunk of raw tofu and eat the whole thing in one bite. I'd absolutely demolish it. I fantasize about eating tofu every day
(If anyone knows how to go about getting tofu with a recyclable wrapper I'd be so grateful)

I just bought soy free tofu made with fava beans! And, recently saw one made of chickpeas. I go back and forth on soy with some health conditions I have, so interested to try this out, plus it has more protein.

Hope maybe you can find it near you (I live in the middle of nowhere so I like to think it's becoming widespread if it makes it to me 🤣 )

I eat it almost everyday, so I guess so? I haven't gotten sick of it yet. I'd look to see if you have any small production tofu makers by you and ask if they'll use a reusable container for you. I know one comes to my local farmers market.

I find i crave tofu when i need more calcium. You could also make lentil or chickpea tofu which the texture isnt totally identical but its quite similar

You can get Tempeh in a glass jar if that helps?

The reason I am not currently fully zero waste is entirely because of tofu. I'm planning to learn to make it bc I can get dried beans at the refill store, but atm my recycling is entirely comprised of tofu tetrapaks. Not proud of it, but it's the truth. Everything else I manage to get packaging free or divert from becoming food waste so I see it as a temporary thing while I get stable enough to cook for myself more.

I've actually written to the Tofoo Company before to ask why they can't make the wrapper home compostible lol.

Yes I love tofu I could eat 500g of plain tofu just w soy sauce and some spicy and be like more I want more it‘s actually quite satisfying and the texture is nice and omg baked it‘s so good when it‘s soft or don‘t get me started on how they prepare it in Asian restaurants like fried in oil omg I don‘t want to know the calories in that but that is so so good

Hella late response on my part, but often I'm able to find bulk fresh tofu at my local asian store. I just take in a big tupperware container and scoop out blocks of firm tofu with the tongs. No plastic bags or packaging (except my reusable container) and only $1.10 a block as well!

Idk how common a thing this is, but just letting you know it is possible!! Always check every asian grocer you pass, you never know what vegan goodies they're hiding ❤

I also crave uncooked tofu and have to restrain myself from taking a giant bite out of fresh blocks lmao they just look so good I wanna BITE hahaha

I love eating tofu with balsamic vinegar and drizzling nutritional yeast on top. I buy those hemp chia and flax seeds that come in a mixed pack and sprinkle that over too. I love uncooked tofu so much, I’m so happy I can eat it and not be time consumed by having to cook it every time. I think tofu must taste good with dijon mustard too. Maybe even hummus!
